About the Teacher

Rio Wrenn is a second-generation Portland native working as an artist, instructor and designer.

She attended colleges in Seattle to ultimately earn a sculpture an interdisciplinary art degree through the University of Washington. After which her focus shifted wholeheartedly to fiber arts. She has taught herself most of the techniques and processes she uses to manipulate the colors and pigments. This has been a rewarding path, which has led her in many different directions including the creation of a fashion label under the name R A W Textiles, as well as annual textile collections. She started teaching workshops as a guest instructor in 2013 and has since traveled to teach and provides classes at her studio in Portland, Oregon.

Rio has exhibited her silk panels and installations over the decades locally and nationally. Her work resides in permanent collections and has been displayed in public spaces.

‘Spirituality of Rust’ is Rios first book which explores the connection we have as artists and humans to heal ourselves and this planet through natural processes and materials such as iron.
