Yu Gi Nong

THIS YEAR, WE WILL FEATURE ONE BIPOC-OWNED BUSINESS IN THE ST. JOHNS NEIGHBORHOOD EACH MONTH.

For the month of April, we would like to introduce you to one of St Johns newest restaurants, Yu Gi Nong.

Contact: 8539 N Lombard St. Portland, Oregon 97203

Phone: (503) 477-4904

Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 11am-3pm, 4:30pm-8:30pm

Christopher Woo and partner Sang Lee are no strangers to the St Johns neighborhood (Chris’ father in-law owned Kokiyo Teriyaki from 1996-2006 in the space now occupied by Rockabilly Cafe) so it was a natural choice to open their restaurant here. How’s that for some local trivia?

Chris’s wife Janet, also has fond memories of watching the St Johns Parade from her parents restaurant. Now, all these years later, she’s back in her old neighborhood with her family and excited to see the St Johns Parade make its return!

Specializing in gluten free Korean food, all of the ingredients are sourced locally and are seasonal. We highly recommend the gochu-jang chicken, a personal favorite and their best seller.

Chris would like to mention that there are several beers now on tap (sadly not gluten-free) but there is a cider option as well as kombucha on tap (separate from the beers for our gluten-free friends)!

Check back for updates on outdoor seating and delivery options in the near future.

Follow along with us on social media this month as we continue to highlight this incredible family business. If you or a business you admire, would like to be highlighted, please send an email to David our Outreach Coordinator at: community@stjohnsopportunity.org
